Debt management companies face improved regulation

The UK government is launching a consultation into the procedures of debt management companies. Kensington Financial Management Consultants welcome further industry regulation and are members of the Debt Resolution Forum – an organisation designed to increase standards within the industry.

The primary purpose of the Debt Resolution Forum is to promote professional standards in resolving financial problems, focusing on the quality of advice provided across the range of available solutions. The DRF requires that we always identify the most appropriate debt solution according to the personal and financial situation of the individual.

The average British household owes £9,000 excluding mortgages, and over 100,000 debt management agreements are reached every year. Government officials believe there is a need to ensure that customers receive appropriate help in tackling their debt problems: it is expected that an announcement will be issued early this year.
